After looking through pictures, I'm returning to our visit to Almotanabi High School in Sale. The Biology classroom had no equipment - no microscopes, no pipettes, no glassware. I've been thinking a lot about the plant cultivation projects that are happening at the school. The students are involved in real scientific research with real world implications.

I'm going to be starting several plant projects with my students when I return to class. I'm thinking about reaching out to the Biology teacher, Hassan, at Almontanabi to see if we can have our students share experiences with plant growth and cultivation with each other.

Another aspect of the work the Almontanabi students are doing that really impressed me was the grafting and hybridization / cloning work with olive trees. The students have worked to hybridize and create an olive tree that is insect tolerant. This is amazing work and a reminder that so much can be done with plants that requires little to no extra equipment / materials.

The trip to Almotanabi has inspired me to rethink some of my plant unit activities - bringing in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and possibility developing some relationships with the Moroccan students around their experiences with plant cultivation.
